Rumiano Cheese Company is the oldest family-owned cheese company in California. It started in 1919, after years of working in the Amador County mines, the brothers Richard, Fred and John Rumiano pooled their resources
and purchased a small dairy in Willows, CA. Soon after, they started experimenting with cheese making. By the mid 1930’s, Rumiano Cheese had developed into the largest cheese company in California with eight actories. Since then, Rumiano Cheese has consolidated into two factories; Willows and Crescent City. The Crescent City facility produces all Rumiano cheeses, which are sent to the Willows facility, where products are aged, cut package and distributed.
In 1980, two Rumiano brothers bought the rights to the cheese making business from the remaining family members. John and Baird built the company from making and distributing 3 million pounds of cheese to 37 million pounds today. Rumiano Cheese proudly employs 150 employees and distributes cheese all over the United States. It was the first
Non-GMO Project Verified cheese, which was the first Non-GMO Project Verified cheese. Rumiano Cheese is made from happy cows, that are on pasture 300+ days a year.
