We are pleased to invite college, high school and middle school students to meet local manufacturing companies during the Grow Manufacturing Expo on October 3, 2024.

Taking place the day before National Manufacturing Day, the 9th Grow Manufacturing Expo will emphasize educational and career opportunities for students and job seekers. This event provides a platform for students to connect with potential employers and gain insights into local companies that are currently hiring. Attendees will have the chance to explore internships and career paths in Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Management, and other related sectors.

The Expo attracts thousands of students, educators, and local businesses.

2024 Breakout Sessions

NEW! Breakout 1:  Building a Competitive Race Car for College Competition: fun and engaging, the Baja & Formula One clubs of Chico State will show what it takes to build a competitive race car.

NEW! Breakout 2: Hands-on Engineering Activities: Chico State’s Student Women in Engineering (SWE) club will engage students in a series of entertaining, hands-on activities to better understand engineering concepts applied to the real world.

NEW! Breakout 3: Stretching the Limits: The Ultimate Rubber Band Powered Showdown!
A rubber band meets things to make a car. Come build a rubber band powered vehicle and test your skills under the pressure of time! You won’t have much of it but you will build the skills and use your will to solve the problem here! See how powerful you might be in this interactive workshop that is a move to a winning design!

NEW! Educator Workshop: Guidance on Speed Dial: Your Lifeline for Teaching Inspiration and Know-How Nothing but teacher-to-teacher connection here! In this workshop, and while students are in the exhibits, teachers will meet teachers and will meet resources from CSU Chico and from area Community Colleges. Strategies for getting students connected and engaged, how to use the pathways as the opportunity to build results. Regardless, as teachers we need each other and using this meet and greet workshop will build “well-engineered” connections!

2024 Student Tours

These 1 hour and 30-minute tours expose students to multiple labs within the College of Engineering:

Plastics lab:  Students will explore the molding of plastics, and biodegradable plastics to make flying disks, bags, bottles, flying pigeons, and rods. 

Robotics lab: Students will watch industrial robots at work and learn how they function.

Wind Tunnel & Solar Panel lab: Students will see a 170 mph wind tunnel at work in the design of
aeronautics and learn how solar panels capture the sun’s energy and convert to electricity.

Virtual Reality & Applied Graphics: Learn how virtual reality is used with the simulation of human movement.

Computer Machining Center: Students will watch programming in action as robot parts and molds for plastics are created through a metal cutting machine.

Baja & Formula Car Centers: Students will see the connection between their engineering and design efforts in high school and the opportunity to build race cars for competition in college.
