The FFA/Skills USA Youth Auction at the Butte County Fair has once again proven to be a platform where innovation and community converge.
Meet William Wasilchen, Jr., 16 (17 in 3 weeks), of Core Butte High School in Vina. He is a junior and once he graduates he plans on staying local and attending the Butte College Welding Program. His interests include mechanics, welding, carpentry, and as a rancher his animals. His father, William Sr. owns Payless 4 Wheel Drive in Chico and taught his son to weld at a young age. William Jr. works at his father’s shop in assisting with day-to-day tasks and after college intends on taking over the family business.
William created a horseshoe-designed set that included a wine, boot, and coat rack. Aside from bettering his skills, his motivation for this project was to try new welding styles and designs.
His project is a symbol of the commitment, hard work, and determination that our local students bring to the table.
